Tom Inglesby, director of the Center for Health Security at Johns Hopkins University said the United States is still in the early stages of the pandemic and would need a vaccine, in addition to improved diagnostic and tracing capabilities, to go back to normal. “No, this virus is not going to go away,” he said. “Hopefully, over time, we will learn to live with it, and we will be able to reduce the risk of transmission. But it’s going to stay as a background problem to the country, and around the world, until we have a vaccine.” This page is based on the assumption that we may have to wait up to 18 months for a Covid-19 vaccine. People are still going to want a vacation but we will have to factor in Covid Safe Travel Procedures for our friends and families. This general information tab is mostly offered to help you think about travel or vacation while living in a Covid-19 world. What type of vacation are you comfortable with? We are hoping it will help you evaluate your individual travel decisions, timing and destinations so we can help you start the vacation planning process. RISK: We all have a different risk factor towards Covid-19. If you have immune system weakness, diabetes, heart disease or lung problems you have more risk from traveling. The older you are, the more chance you have for complications. If you are young and healthy you may be ready to go now. This will affect how aggressive your trip selection can be but even people that are less than healthy may be able to take a nature break by car if the hotels implement the practices we have seen coming. If you have health problems, your doctor may also have input on your travel decisions. COMFORT LEVEL: Leisure travel should be fun. One famous cruise line has built a whole marketing campaign around that. Each individual will need to decide how risk averse your personality is and start with a compromise with your traveling companions so everyone is comfortable to make it fun for everybody. DESTINATION & ACTIVITIES: This one is easy as we all have hobbies and vacation activities that we are longing for but after much reflection, you may want different nature oriented activities or checking off something you have never done. Based on your risk level, you will have to decide inside activities versus mostly outside activities where spread is less likely. Social distancing is practical in many situations but not always possible at the busiest “bucket list” destinations. Based on worldwide complications we may even be changing our trip destinations in 20 & 21 but we still want to travel while keeping ourselves safe. CONVEYANCE: We offer drive packages, nonstop flights, nearby Caribbean destinations, cruises, Amtrak and most leisure destinations in North America. We have always booked vacations to the entire world. One of the most basic decisions is how far, when and by what means of travel are you comfortable traveling? BUDGET: In the current economic environment, you might be downgrading your vacation style. A good travel agent can help you find something that is less expensive and nice. On the other hand, you might have been locked in the house and working so you want something short but real nice. We can help you upgrade your vacation choices and help find you value while travel is starting up again. COVID BEST PRACTICES: The travel industry is moving to institute best practices for social distancing, enhanced cleaning and sanitation but different vendors will have different levels of safety. We have a whole tab on what this means and we are making it our business to understand this stuff as our existing clients want to travel. Destinations will lend themselves to different levels of space and recently over-tourism sometimes packs us together at famous attractions, so you may want to get off the beaten path. Hand washing, social distancing and reduction of touchpoints is all important. There is also a certain amount of personal responsibility that comes into this as we don’t want to wander the world and get other people sick so you will be required to mask for the foreseeable future to keep you from spreading germs. My new slogan is spread love, not germs. You will need to arm yourself with protective gear (like a few cheap disposable gloves) and maybe some travel size cleaning supplies. TSA recently allowed each person to travel with up to 12 ounces of hand sanitizer. We keep up with these types of things in an age of Covid-19. We envision that eventually high risk individuals will also have to travel with Covid “treatments” once they are proven, in case you catch something along the way. PERMISSIONS: Borders and entry to specific areas from specific places can be a problem. At the time we were dreaming of this web page, 100% of the world was closed to entry. We expect that to open gradually but initially places will require 14 day quarantine if you enter from a hot zone. These will change frequently depending on a status of “sporadic, clusters or community transmission” in your destination or your home country. The status may change over time as communities have spikes in cases until this is solved permanently. Finally everything may look great when you are planning a trip but suddenly change so it is important to be able to change your plans. For this reason, we are discouraging nonrefundable hotel and deposits as they are only a limited savings but could be problematic if you have to change plans. TESTING: Testing may be required based on the level in your home place and the country you want to travel to. This is new and will change as cheap Covid testing comes on the market. You might be required to have an active Covid test to enter a country or even be tested on the spot at the border. INSURANCE: Most travel insurance will not cover a viral pandemic for cancellation unless you buy “any reason” coverage that typically does not cover 100%. All vendors worked with us to unwind trips with refunds and future travel once Covid became a problem so insurance can be transferred to future travel dates. Travel insurance will pay for a trip interruption (possibly only partially, up to limits) if you get Covid on a trip and get quarantined before you can travel home. If you need to get someone home who is disabled by Covid, insurance will pay for emergency evacuation or airline change charges for any type of sickness. Our Travel Agency is a licensed travel insurance agency in Florida and has reciprocal agreements through our provider in most states. SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE: This is no time for “do it yourself” travel. Get the support and assistance of a travel agent. We have done this for 34 years and this is the most challenging travel environment of our lifetime. We have always managed risk for clients by providing information about world events. We have a large existing client base who want to travel. We have to make it our business to figure out how they can do this safely while Covid-19 exists in the world. 10 REASONS WHY YOU NEED A TRAVEL AGENT FOR POST-PANDEMIC TRAVEL: This is from Forbes Magazine by Christopher Elliott a respected travel columnist: 1. Prepare you for the travel experience. 2. Understand where you are going. 3. Screen every travel company. 4. Hold your hand. 5. Help you navigate the new rules of travel. 6. Be available 24/7 if you have an emergency. 7. Leverage insider contacts to make sure you have a smooth trip. 8. Go the extra mile to get you home 9. Solve your problems 10. Help you secure a no hassle refund or credit if necessary. When you are ready, have a conversation with your traveling companions and call or email us for a plan. We do it all from local hotels, to all- inclusive, large chain and independent hotels, cruises, USA National Parks and City Packs. By the time the governments reinstitute free movement worldwide for tourists in fall 2020 or 2021, we’ll have that wired too so book now as 2021 looks to be busy with hopeful travelers.
