town. We do a lot of trips where we
combine land vacations with a river
cruise as most itineraries start and end
in a different city. Our travel agency is
experienced with river cruises and we
have actually taken a river cruise so
we can give you first hand advice.
Where do River Cruises Go?
The two most popular rivers in Europe are the Rhine and the Danube. The Danube is a
long river that runs east and west from Germany through Austria into Eastern Europe.
The Rhine is the main north south river which runs from the North Sea at Amsterdam
down to Basel which is near Zurich, Switzerland. Many river cruise boats sail the rivers
of France with some sailing into Paris and others doing the wine country. European
boats also sail the Douro in Portugal and the Po in Italy.
River cruises also sail from St. Petersburg to Moscow in Russia. This is a misnomer as
much of this is lake cruising rather than traditional river cruising. Most China trips
include a trip on the Yangtzee and river cruise boats also sail Vietnam and Mynnamar
(Burma). Some of these countries require an entrance visa unlike Western Europe for
Americans.
The last frontier of river cruising
is America and they are coming
in a big way now and in the next
few years. Right now we have
two companies sailing the
Mississippi from New Orleans
and all the way up to Ohio and
St. Louis in the summertime.
Next year Viking has signed a
contract with the State of
Louisiana to headquarter boats
in New Orleans.
Are River Cruises Expensive?
We do get promotional discounts on most brands of river cruises and we can help you
understand which brand is the best deal on your dates, on your river, with your chosen
category of room. River cruises are a pretty inclusive experience as they offer most
meals onboard, beer or wine with lunch or dinner and most include must see shore
excursions along with a tour director.
Is there a BEST brand of River Cruise?
As with most travel products, it is not which brand is best, but which brand is best for
you and your traveling companion. Different brands of river cruises offer different
amenities including full bar, wine tasting cruises or more gourmet dining experiences.
Some offer more shore excursions than others plus pre and posts experiences differ

and others have more deluxe room configurations onboard.
