What is up with Cuban Travel? Sadly after two trips to Havana we have temporarily closed our Cuba programs. A recent announcement from the Trump administration shut down most Cuban travel at this point in time. We feel this decision was a mistake by the USA as Cuban entrepreneurs were using the tourism industry to achieve independence and income in a work environment. Freedom to travel for Americans should be a right that our government supports and open exchange between close neighbors is always to our benefit. In a surprise move, the US Government ceased all cruise calls on Havana without notice. People to People programs have been cancelled and operators are having problems getting applications for specific licenses through the US Governmental process

Under the law, you are still allowed to take a trip if you are “supporting the Cuban People” and stay in private accommodations. In theory the US Government has only closed one of the 12 provisions of the general license but in practice, we have always erred on the side of safety when it comes to clients and ambiguity in travel restrictions. We also are declining to run these programs as Travel Service Providors under the law have recently received hefty fines for moving passengers in violation of the embargo. We will continue to monitor laws and regulations regarding Cuban travel and go back to the business when the time and politics are right. In the meantime, enjoy our Cuban blogs with the sights and sounds of Havana.
